TAS (Technology and Applied Studies)
The Technology and Applied Studies (TAS) Faculty at our school offers a diverse range of courses that equip students with essential skills and knowledge in design, engineering, food technology, and industrial technology. Our programs foster creativity, practical problem-solving, and an understanding of the historical, cultural, and societal influences on technology and design. Students engage in hands-on projects that develop their expertise in areas such as engineering mechanics and materials, food production and nutrition, multimedia technologies, and timber industry practices. Through these courses, students gain valuable experience in design, management, and production, preparing them for future studies and careers in rapidly evolving technological fields.
TAS courses available at Chifley College Senior Campus include:
- Computing Applications: Computing Applications is a 'hands-on' skills-based course aimed at developing the student's abilities to use hardware and software to complete a range of practical experiences in a broad range of topic areas.
- Design and Technology: The study of Design and Technology develops both practical and conceptual understanding of the design process. In Year 12, students select and apply appropriate design, management, and production skills in the development of a Major Project and supporting documentation.
- Engineering Studies: The Engineering Studies course offers students the knowledge, understanding and skills in aspects of engineering that include communication, engineering mechanics/hydraulics, engineering electricity/electronics, and engineering materials. It is a comprehensive introduction to all fields of engineering.
- Food Technology: The study of Food Technology provides students with the opportunity to develop broad knowledge and understanding about nutrition, diet and health in Australia, food availability and selection. Practical skills in developing, experimenting, planning, preparing, and presenting food are integrated throughout the course.
- Industrial Technology - Multimedia: This course develops practical skills in creating multimedia projects by working with text, graphics, audio, video, animation, and web technologies. In Year 12, students select and apply appropriate design, management, and production skills in the development of a Major Project and supporting documentation.
- Industrial Technology- Timber:This course has a practical focus that provides students with the opportunity to learn about timber, hardware, adhesives, and other materials, and how to select and use them in a variety of projects. In Year 12, students select and apply appropriate design, management, and production skills in the development of a Major Project and supporting documentation.
