Course Description:
Geography is an investigation of the world providing a description and interpretation of the varied characteristics of the earth and its people.
In the Preliminary Course students investigate the parts of the biophysical environment and the interactions that exist. Students also investigate various global challenges such as population growth and resource depletion.
Students will also complete a Senior Geography Project on an issue in the local community. This research will teach vital geographical skills such as using primary and secondary resources and ethical research practices.
There are 3 formal assessment tasks including a two hour Exit Examination
In the HSC Course, students investigate a variety of ecosystems at risk; including natural and human induced stress as well as management strategies. A variety of cities are also investigated from different regions of the world. Lastly, students will research a global economic activity and its importance.
As part of their research, students will also conduct on-site research at various locations around Sydney.
There are 4 formal assessment tasks including a 3 hour HSC Trial Examination.

Both the Year 11 and Year 12 courses consist of three units. This is what will be studied.
