Information and Digital Technology (IDT)

Course Description:

Information and Digital Technology is a Vocational Education and Training (VET) course. It provides students with the opportunity to achieve a nationally recognised qualification that can be used to obtain employment or undertake further training within the industry. In this course students must undertake the mandatory element of Work Placement and can obtain a Statement of Attainment towards Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology if they complete all Units of Competency within the course, to a competent level.

QUALIFICATION: ICT30115 Statement of Attainment towards Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology.

What will I be doing in this course?

In Information and Digital Technology, students are able to develop the skills and knowledge to be competent in a wide range of general Information and Communication Technology (ICT) 'technical' functions and to achieve a degree of self-sufficiency as an advanced ICT 'user'. Students working at this level will support information technology activities in the workplace across a wide range of ICT areas including technical support, software applications, and web technologies.

Students will need to complete a total of 70 hours work placement in the IT industry in order to successfully achieve their HSC. (35 hours in Year 11, 35 hours in Year 12)

How will this course help me in the future?

Information and Digital Technology provides students with the opportunity to obtain national vocational qualifications for employment in the Information and Communications Technology industry.

Students will be able to develop knowledge and skills to enable them to be an effective ICT user and/or employer.

Skills acquired in this course are transferable to other industries. Specialised ICT occupations include:

  • Technical support officer
  • IT Consultant
  • Website developer
  • Systems Analyst
  • Desktop Publisher
